Fall Stripers
11. October 2009 by Captain Webb.
Now that I am back to my full time job of teaching, I have not been able to get out on the water as much as I would like. I have been out there most weekends and a few evenings. The fishing has been fantastic. Lots of surface action can be found both in the mornings and the afternoons.
Last weekend I had Jeff Woods back on the boat with his friends Doug and Nicole. We were out on the water for only a few hours in the morning, but everyone hooked their fill of stripers (and one nice blue caught by Nicole!) We had a falling tide all afternoon and were on one school of fish the whole time. Jeff was hooking stripers on flies both on the surface and underneath. Doug and Nicole spent the afternoon hooking fish on the surface with Zara spooks and slug-gos. Jeff had a fantastic evening as not only did he catch all the fish he could on both fly and spinning gear, but became a father only a few hours after getting back to the dock. Congrats!
The boat leaves for Florida in next weekend so the season ends for me next Sunday. On to thoughts of Snook and Redfish this winter and spring. I am hoping to also get a trip in this late spring for some tarpon. Thank you everybody for a terrific season and I hope to see everyone on the water come May! I have a group of students building fly rods this fall, which has been fun to teach. I will post some pictures when they are finished. Tight lines, Captain Webb
