Mid-May and the Fishing is on fire

The fishing has been fantastic this week, especially in the evening and the falling tide. As the tide begins to drop, the fish have been gorging themselves on bait in several locations throughout the harbor. Last evening I had a couple of returning fishermen, Don and Jon, onboard and we fished from 5 until dark. We moved around a little during the high tide and found some good structure to fish with only one strike. But as the tide really began to move, we found the fish. A huge school of bass feeding on schools of silversides. We were lucky to have these fish all to ourselves for two hours. Because it was flat calm, the blitz was amazing to watch; seeing nice sized bass rolling on the surface was great to see. Sometimes it was just their shoulders that would break the surface, although a few launched clear out of the water. Don and Jon both were hooking fish on almost every cast on fly and spin. Jon caught his first striper on fly! As the sun set the fishing slowed and we decided to head in. It was a great few hours on the water!

The fishing should continue to be terrific so make sure to book your charter today.

Early May Fishing

Saturday, May 8, 2010

The fish are here not only in numbers, but in size. I was on the water last evening with Andy Henderson and his friend Doug. It was the first charter of the season and what a trip it was. We able were to get into a school of fish within the first hour on the water and we stayed on them until sunset. Each fish we brought to the boat seemed to be a copy of each other in the 26”-32” range.

Andy and Doug were getting the fish on rubber shad and a variety slug-gos. Andy had the magic touch with a 7” Slug-go in a new color. Each cast seemed to bring a nice fish to the surface to smash the slug-go. We found that as we saw the fish hit it once but miss, stopping the retrieve and giving it one twitch would bring a tremendous strike.

I hope that this fishing action continues. I will be on the water as much as I can over the next few days. Call today to book your charter.

Boat Launched/First Striper

May 1, 2010

Nervous Water was splashed yesterday. What a beautiful first day of the season. Not only was the weather perfect, but I caught the first striper of the season!! I launched at dead low in Weymouth and made my way back to Boston. As I came out of the channel, I saw a several birds working the surface. As I made my way over there, I saw what I had been dreaming about all winter. Nice sized stripers crashing bait all around! Although I had not brought a rod, I was able to find a old one in the forward hold and one lure. First cast, I hooked my first striper of the season!

It is great to see the fish already here. This is the first year I have seen fish in these numbers here so early. What a great start to the season!

I also got Grouper out for her first boat trip!
