Busy with Great Fishing

7/20/20
I have been busy on the water over the past few weeks. Since the middle of last week, I have been on the water every day. The fishing has been fantastic and has only been getting better. Some great fish have been caught on both fly and spinning gear.
Monday and Tuesday 7/19/10- 7/20/10
The past two mornings I had a my parents and my Uncle on board for some fishing. Monday my Uncle and I spent a few hours fishing a few different rips and pulled some great fish out of each spot we fished. The fish were holding in the calm water at the top of each rip. Most casts in the correct spot brought a hit. This morning my parents joined us and the fishing was on FIRE. Huge schools of bass were all over the harbor and we spent three hours catching fish after fish. Not that anyone was counting, but my mom caught the most fish this morning. She was catching a fish on most casts and some of them were very sizable. My dad also hooked into some nice fish on fly.
We also found a few whales out there! (on a whale watch:)
Saturday and Sunday 7/17-7/18
The fishing this weekend was solid. Saturday morning and afternoon both produced some great fish. In the morning I had Graham Pallett and his godson on board. We had some terrific fishing. Each apot we fished produced fish. Graham was outfishing his godson until we drifted one of our last spots of the morning. The tide was at the tail end of the drop and we fished one of my favorite spots. Directly behind a large rock, a monster striper hit Grahams slug-go as he slowly moved it through 3 feet of water. He fought the fish to the boat and captain made the mistake of having it snap off as I grabbed the leader:) His god son made up for it by hooking an equally impressive fish on the next drift. This one we got into the boat and they took it home for the BBQ. Graham sounded like a great cook and had some good plans for this fish.
Saturday night also produced some great fish. Tonight we found fish way outside in a blitz and were able to hook into some nice fish right away. After that shut down, we made our way inside and found fish stacked up in a few rips. A few hours on the water produced some big fish.
Friday 7/16/10
What an amazing day on the water. I had Bert Parker and his two sons on board who were up from South Carolina. We found fish on a rip early in the morning and were able to hook into several of them. After the fishing slowed a little, we made out way to another spot and found a huge school of fish busting the surface. It was an amazing blitz and at times had all three of them hooked up. Bert’s son Trey was able to hook not only his first striper on fly, but several of them! We had fun all morning and they were great fishermen and people. They obviously enjoyed the terrific fishing, but also just being on the water. This was one of the better blitzes I have seen all summer. Lots of bait in the harbor and the fish have found them.

Friday night I had a great fisherman from France. Although he did not speak much English, you could tell his excitement on his face as he hooked striper after striper in several locations. As we got outside the harbor, we say birds working and thought it was a giant blitz. As we began to fish, we quickly found out that it was actually a huge school of mackerel. We had a little fun with them for a while until we found better fishing in some moving water! A great night of fishing.
Thursday 7/16
We had a terrific morning on the water. There was thick fog out there, but we slowly made our way to a spot that has been holding fish in a rip on the outgoing tide. Roo and Phil were on the boat with me this morning and when we arrived, we quickly spotted through the fog, a giant school of fish busting the surface. We were on this school all morning with nice fish being caught. In each drift, we had fish busting on all sides of the boat. It was a truly amazing sight. Roo even hooked some keeper bass on fly. As the fog lifted and the tide slowed, we moved onto a new spot and were able to hook a few more fish. What a great morning.
I had my friend Mark and his son Jack on board this afternoon and we got into some great fish. I think Jack may have just outfished his father!!! They both were able to get some great fish and fun was had by all on the water.

Heat wave

7/7/10
Last week there was some great fishing in the harbor. The herring blitzes were still going on and some great fish were being caught. This week, the hot weather has moved in and has made an impact on the fishing. Although there have been some small surface blitzes. most of the fish we are catching have been in the structure and rips. Don’t get me wrong, we are still catching plenty of fish, but we are just having to work a little harder to get them.
This past Monday morning, Rick Miller was able to hook into some nice stripers in both some shallow water structure and rips. His first cast in some rocks produced a monster strike that broke off. We saw it roll as it took and it was a big fish. Plenty of more fish were caught by him on Hogies. He tried fly late in the morning and had three follows but no takes. We had to head in before he was able to hook one on fly.
Yesterday afternoon was a bit slower, but we worked hard in different areas to get some nice sized fish. We had some follows earlier, but the fish have been lazy in this hot weather. There is a lot of bait in the harbor over the past couple of days, although there have not yet been any fish under them. Hopefully as the weather cools the fishing will pick up.
Tight lines,
Captain Webb
