7/7/10
Last week there was some great fishing in the harbor. The herring blitzes were still going on and some great fish were being caught. This week, the hot weather has moved in and has made an impact on the fishing. Although there have been some small surface blitzes. most of the fish we are catching have been in the structure and rips. Don’t get me wrong, we are still catching plenty of fish, but we are just having to work a little harder to get them.
This past Monday morning, Rick Miller was able to hook into some nice stripers in both some shallow water structure and rips. His first cast in some rocks produced a monster strike that broke off. We saw it roll as it took and it was a big fish. Plenty of more fish were caught by him on Hogies. He tried fly late in the morning and had three follows but no takes. We had to head in before he was able to hook one on fly.
Yesterday afternoon was a bit slower, but we worked hard in different areas to get some nice sized fish. We had some follows earlier, but the fish have been lazy in this hot weather. There is a lot of bait in the harbor over the past couple of days, although there have not yet been any fish under them. Hopefully as the weather cools the fishing will pick up.
Tight lines,
Captain Webb
